Link Spotify to your Google Home or Google Nest
Go to Settings/General/Date and Time turn Set Automatically OFF then manually set date forward at least 1 day. Power off the device then turn back on. Reinstall the App and when you get pop up about Allow Notifications select Yes. Now just go back to Settings/General/Date and Time and turn Set Automatically back on. Leave it unplugged for 1 minute. Plug the power cord back in. Note: Rebooting Google Home speaker or Nest display isn't the same as factory resetting Google Home speaker or Nest display.

Nope! You can make Spotify the default player on your Google home so you don’t have to specify “on Spotify”. Google Home gives you the option to do this when you ask it to play music, simply say “yes” to agree.
